Bethany and Lauren's Page

Bethany “Fridgit” Hughes grew up learning Spanish and how to climb in the Andes of South America. She later guided Boy Scout backpacking groups in New Mexico, then worked with sled dog teams in Tongass National Forest along Alaska Inside Passage. Since thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail she has focused on long distance excursions and encouraging others to get outside and see the world from different perspectives as a means to personal empowerment and social advocacy.

Lauren “ Neon” Reed discovered her joy of the outdoors at a young age. While attending Penn State University she spent weekends leading climbing, canoeing, and hiking trips. She is a Triple Crown thru-hiker, having walked the three primary long distance trails across the US. In her time away from longer trails, she works as a wilderness therapy guide and continues finding enrichment outdoors; learning, writing, sharing, photographing, and exploring along the way.

Currently Bethany and Lauren are on a human powered odyssey, traveling the length of the Americas connecting the story of the land and its inhabitants. Along the way they engage local populations in storytelling, learning how humans and animals are adapting to a changing planet.
